I am stuck on 21 and 22. I spent much of my life determined to be right, such that an apology was an admission of error and failure and hence a challenge to my nature and identity. In short, I was an asshole. Following some reflection on this I have got much better at apologising, but you are leading me to question whether I have become too comfortable with the process. Thanks!!
I find #29 poignant but confusing. Is the one with the deep, solid, resounding and profoundly comforting knowledge that they already value you as you are the lover or the loved? And why?
"The ability to remain calm when other people don’t is a criminally underrated life skill."
I'm glad Kipling hadn't heard about life skills when he wrote his version. There was also the parody "If you can keep your head when all around etc" to which was added "then you've probably misunderstood the situation."
Philosophy is not self-help, but it may help you stop lying to yourself.
The first part may or may not be true, and the second part is definitely true for me,” but then i have never really studied Philosophy. My attitude is more of a “practice makes more perfect sense” approach to Life, and failing that, just keep going with as much humor that I can muster.
Thank you for writing this. Some of this hit hard!
Fab!!!
Thank you for this. I feel a lot better about my house 🩷

This is one of the reasons I subscribe to you, Laura!!

As listicles go...this one's awesome.
And I'd really like to know if you ever figured out who the heck Martin is.
I trust he’ll reveal himself in the fullness of time (ie no).
Brilliant!

But a nice list anyway.
There is much that is thoughtful, wise and true in this excellent article.
I refuse to listen to any of it.
That’s very sensible of you Mike.
I completely disagree with that as well.
Great list.
Though still waiting on that call.

Regarding 9. I’m currently decorating the stairs and landing, so I won’t be applying a second coat to the woodwork because Laura said I don’t have to.
Tell people it’s rustic.
I won’t need to tell them…
My intellect is not quite broad enough to appreciate the current decor of the Oval Office.
