I had to hit up Google twice reading this! Once for 'omphalos' - (org. bellybutton?!) and once to check out Spinoza's hair. A strong look, to be fair.

Thanks, as always, Laura for making me stop, think, and consider things from a different perspective. You have such a talent at unpicking themes but not giving us a definitive result, so we need to consider what it means for or to us, as your readers. I look forward to reading your philosophies of notions each week :) I certainly feel more educated and energised of thought each time!

Maybe the numbness was just because you weren't physically in the place looking at it. I find something is lost emotionally when I've not experienced what is portrayed in an image. Perhaps if you had experienced seeing it in real life it would have felt different. Although, I often find that the things I look forward to most don't hold the most emotional resonance... its always the little, unexpected things.

I think of this at Christmas when I am frantically trying to create this 'magical Christmas' for the kids. I don't remember a single opening of the presents but my most precious memories are things like mom stopping suddenly when getting back into the car at the village shop on Christmas eve to say "What was that... can you hear it... is it Santa's sleigh bells?" and my 6 year old self did hear them... so clearly, tingling with excitement. I hope you had lots of little magic moments throughout your first publishing experience and that they'll be what you remember ❤️.

Could it be that your book was placed next to "You Will Die In Prison?" Such a downer.

On a more serious note, ambitions are always a moving target. Below is an epigraph from a writing project I have. it refers to money, but it could refer to anything else.

“Everyone’s got their number. Soon as they hit it, they swear they’ll walk away and live their real life. Problem is the more they make, the higher their number goes. No one ever hits their number. No one walks away.”
